If your clearances are less than 1 year old, they are good for 5 years and you don’t have to do anything. If your clearances are more than 1 year old, they must be redone. However, the state decided to waive the fees for State Police and Child Abuse background checks, so it won’t cost you anything.
State Police Criminal History Check
Fairly simple, takes about 5 minutes and you print out your certificate when finished.
You will need to create an account and then you can submit all your info. They will email you when the certificate is ready, then you can download and print it.
If you have lived outside of PA in the past 10 years, you must also complete an FBI fingerprint check ($27). Go to the website, use the PA Dept of Human Services button (unless you plan to volunteer in a school, then use the PA Dept of Education button) , and you register to get your fingerprints done. This only takes a minute or two. It assigns you a registration number. Take your registration number to the UPS Store on Walnut Bottom Rd or Trindle and have your fingerprints done. Within a week or 2 you will get the clearance information. You are welcome to take it to other UPS stores, but I recommend checking if they do fingerprints first – some do and some don’t.
